SAO PAULO, BRAZIL (WGN)- After months of fighting cancer of the pancreas and lung, David Meadows, long-term missionary and elder in the Guarulhos church, died October 1 around 8:30 a.m., according to Sergio Nascimento, secretary of the Mt of Olives Christian Camp.

David MeadowsMeadows had been hospitalized again the previous Saturday after his condition worsened.

A wake was held later that evening in the Itaquera church building, in São Paulo. His body was cremated the following morning.

At his death, Meadows was in his second two-year term as General Director of the camp. He had initiated the work in the city of Guarulhos, in the greater Sao Paulo area, and served as one of two elders in the congregation.

He was instrumental in the beginning of the National Bible School and served as an assistant editor in the initial stages of the forthcoming dictionary of Biblical vocabulary to be published by Projeto Alcance.

He is survived by his wife Sarah, four children, all living in Brazil, and three grandchildren.

The Meadows also worked for a time in Rio de Janeiro.
