George Merritt

TROY, ALA. (BNc) — George Merritt retired from pulpit and radio ministry after 60 plus years at the end of 2022.

George served ten congregations in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi during his years in ministry, completing his work with the Ariton Church of Christ, Ariton, AL at the end of December 2022.

Additionally, George worked in newspaper and radio. He was the producer and speaker for the Biblically based radio programs, Truth for Today (1975-85),  Power & the Glory (2000-2022), and George Merritt’s God & Country (2004-2016).  Power & the Glory continues to air on 14 stations and is heard throughout the country and world thanks to technology. George authored the book, Truth for Today. His aim was always to teach “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” concerning God’s Word.

Roger Howell took over Power & the Glory at the beginning of 2023.

George and his beloved wife, Wanda Gonce Merritt, make their home in Troy, Alabama. They married September 6, 1964, (58 years). They have four children, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Their daughter, Diana Merritt Hardin, summed their lives up beautifully by saying, “They’ve worked so very hard and we’re happy for them to retire. We ask for your prayers on their behalf.”

Letters of congratulations may be sent to the Merritts at 302 Pine Forest Circle, Troy, AL 36079.
