In a Daily Signal news item about a New York religious group wanting the right to defend its congregants, a Texas congregation is pictured and mentioned — albeit with an error in the report.

The report reads: “That tragedy prompted people to begin to exercise their Second Amendment rights, albeit quietly, in church settings. At times, it has been proven to prevent loss of life. In 2019, a gunman opened fire at the West Freeway Church of Life in North Texas. An armed security guard targeted and killed the perpetrator. Although two churchgoers did die—along with the shooter—the loss of life, given a full building at church that morning, could have been much greater.”

Actually, it’s a reference to “Church of Christ,” which the head photo of the story demonstrates.

Again, this shows that names are a problematic thing. Brethren insist on a name for the church where the New Testament has none. So many religious groups with so many different names makes the church of God appear to be just one more among so many others.

Many congregations, in US states that permit it, have a security team with arms, in the case of shooters, as happened with the West Freeway congregation.
