MT. JULIET, Tenn. (BNC) — Stan Mitchell was a popular Bible professor at Freed-Hardeman University. He was also a long-time columnist of Forthright Magazine. His passing on 19 Feb. 2019 came as a shock to family and friends.
In collaboration with his family, Forthright Press has just released a digital book of Stan’s writings, in time for the FHU Lectureship.
With more than 700 articles over 15 years of writing, the book reflects Stan’s wide interests in sacred music, unity in truth, and the practice of faith.
All proceeds from sales of the book will go to the FHU Bible Scholarship Fund.
Stan’s first article published in Forthright Magazine was for 22 Sept. 2004. His last article was published posthumously in 2019.
The title of the book, Reality Check, was also the title Stan had chosen for his Forthright column.
The book may be ordered on the Forthright Press website.
Below is our preface to the book.
“Forthright Press is delighted to release this collection of Stan Mitchell’s articles published in Forthright Magazine, in memory of his dedication to the Lord’s Kingdom and of his faithfulness in writing weekly to encourage and motivate our online readers.
We recommend not only his writings but his whole life as a man of God devoted to serving and sharing the meaning of Scripture. He was always concerned that we practice what was taught. He was a model of compassion and friendship.
Stan was an astute observer of humankind. He could see trends and perceive directions. Above all, he was committed to truth and to reconciliation.
Stan will be missed by his family and friends. His memory and legacy of faithfulness will live on in his good works and good words.”
