HENDERSON, Tenn. (BNC) — The Freed-Hardeman University Board of Trustees selected David Shannon, preacher with the Mount Juliet, Tenn., congregation, as the 16th president of FHU at their meeting Friday, April 21. He will begin his duties this summer, according to a press release yesterday.
David has worked with the Mt. Juliet, Tenn., congregation, in the greater Nashville area, for 18 years. He is a popular speaker in brotherhood events and lectureships.
During his time with the Mt. Juliet congregation, growth more than doubled from 500 to around 1,100.
Reactions have been positive to the announcement.
“I’m excited about what this means for the future of my alma mater. It’s a brilliant choice and God is going to do amazing things through him there. As a member at Mt Juliet, I’m heartbroken to be losing an amazing preacher and teacher who has helped my faith develop so much,” Valerie Matheny, member of the body at Mt. Juliet, posted today on Facebook.
David follows Joe Wiley, who announced his retirement last fall, after nine years in the office.
