LORAIN, Oh. (BNC) by David Kenney — The North Central Ohio Bible Lectureship was conducted Aug. 7-10 at the congregation that meets at 5075 Toledo Avenue, Lorain, Ohio.

The theme of the lectureship was “Have You Counted The Cost? – Luke 14:28-30.”

Bob Eddy has served as Lectureship Director for 18 years of this annual event. Brother Eddy has been preaching the gospel for nearly 65 years, directed 24 lectureships, and has worked with the Lorain church for the past 18 years. He is highly respected throughout the Ohio Valley for his many years of service to the cause of Christ.

There were sessions for both men and women. The 23 lectures were well attended and received.

Some of the women’s sessions were “Cost of Not Being A Christian”, “Cost of Not Teaching Others,” and the Cost of Being A Divorced Christian”.

In the auditorium were delivered lectures such as “Cost of Rejecting God”, “The Cost of Preaching”, “The Cost of Vain Worship”, The Cost of True Worship”, “The Cost of Not Training Children”, “Jesus Paid It All”, and “It Pays to Serve Jesus”.

There were other special lectures: “Preserving A Godly Family”, “Overcoming Pride”, and “Women Serving In Worship”.

Included on the roster of speakers for the auditorium sessions included: Raymond Seig; Dan Jenkins; Chris Raynor, Preacher at Hanoverton, OH; Jeremiah Cisco, Preacher in Ontario, Canada; Steve Smithbauer, Preacher at Weirton Heights, WV; Bob Eddy, Preacher at Lorain, OH and Director; Dale Babinski, Dean of Students at South East Institute of Biblical Studies in Knoxville, TN; Andy Robison, Director of West Virginia School of Preaching in Moundsville, WV; David Kenney, Preacher at Wadsworth, OH; Mike Foresha, Preacher at Vermillion, OH; and Harold Reddick, Preacher at Elyria, OH.

The women lecturers for the women sessions included: Tam Raynor, Hanoverton, OH; Paula Babinski, Knoxville, TN; and Marsha Robison, Moundsville, WV.

Among the many exceptional lessons and points, Dan Jenkins delivered an excellent lesson on “The Cost of Withdrawing Fellowship,” by emphasizing the two-fold purpose of church discipline: “To save the wayward brother” and “To save the church”. One of the salient points from his lecture that needs to be heeded related to the lack of support from sister congregations in cooperating with church discipline. Jenkins stated that some simply “hop from one church to another with their sins.” He asked a very penetrating question: “We honor the baptisms in the name of Jesus in sister congregations. Should we not also honor withdrawal in the name of Jesus in sister congregations?”

Meals were provided and served by the Lorain, Vermillion and Elyria churches.

There was good attendance at these lectures with food and fellowship enjoyed by all. Exhibits at the lectureship this year included In Search of the Lord’s Way, Warren Christian Apologetics Center, Potter Children’s Home, South East School of Biblical Studies, West Virginia School of Preaching, and others.

Each evening lecture series was begun with a period of congregational singing led by Steve Cain who works with the West Side congregation in Cleveland, OH.
