VIENNA, WVa., (BNC) — A new apologetics center dedicated to the defense and teaching of the existence of God may be opening its new facility soon.
The Warren Christian Apologetics Center has purchased land and is set to begin construction soon on a 7,200 sq. ft. building which will include a library, 290-seat auditorium, classrooms and offices, according to Dick Sztanyo, minister of the Pelham, Ala., Church of Christ. Sztanyo is assisting the founders, Charles Pugh, W. Terry Varner and Thomas Bart Warren in the project. The Vienna, WV facility will be completed in the spring of 2011.
Sztanyo said the center is a continuation of the work of an organization started by Warren in the late 1970s. Warren, who died in 2000, is probably best known for his debate with Dr. Antony Flew in 1976. Flew abandoned his proposition and later declared belief in a Supreme Being.
The Warren’s Center’s thrust of proving God’s existence will be based on certitude, rather than probability, Sztanyo said. He said the center’s mission is threefold: it will focus on the existence of God, the inspiration of the scriptures and the deity of Christ.
A website is already up and running. The center is currently publishing and teaching. Its founders are speaking on its behalf. Sztanyo said the center is creating an endowment designed to pay for the day-to-day operation of the facility.
