PARAGOULD, Ark. (BNc) by J. Randal Matheny — Sometime around 1996, not long after I got my first email address, Mike Brown, a friend and brother in Christ from our then sponsoring congregation, shared with me how to code a bit of HTML and then provided me space on his webhost.
With Mike’s help, I began writing online, invited Barry Newton to contribute, and shortly Forthright Magazine was born. Then came Forthright Press, with our ministry partner Barbara Ann Oliver, along with BrotherhoodNews.com and other sites belonging to the GoSpeak effort.
Mike passed away about 7:15 pm, Central Time, last night, after succumbing to cancer. His career was as a manager for Monroe, some of it spent in Nebraska.
Mike never imagined what he was responsible for helping to get off the ground. Nor did we dream it at the time either.
It is more than appropriate that we acknowledge his passing here at BNc and express our gratitude for his help in that initial phase.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00-3:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, in Paragould, with the funeral at 3:00. Please keep his wife Pauletta and the rest of the family in your prayers.
When his obituary is posted, we’ll link to it.

So sorry for his loss. Taking comfort in the fact that he’s with our heavenly Father.

Thank you Randy for acknowledging this humble servant of God. Mike was always about giving a hand to people. Always positive, always a businessman, always kind; Mike went about doing good, using his many talents and encouraged others. Mike’s family, friends, co-workers and church family came together today to collectively remember a life that was well lived. Mike Brown gave glory to God.

Chuck, thanks for the note about Mike and about the funeral. We were there in spirit, and sent our word of sympathy through my parents, with whom I talked Sat. morning.
