FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (BNc)- The Feeding the Hungry and Prison Ministries of the Golden Heights congregation sponsored its third food and clothing giveaway, TheWestsideGazette reported yesterday.
The church van transported the homeless and needy to the church’s recreation area. A tent served the audience for a worship service, where they heard the gospel preached by Perry Johnson.
Four obeyed the gospel and were baptized into Christ.
In the other tent clothing and shoes were offered. People were allowed to take as much as they wanted.
Vice Mayor Barrington Russell addressed the audience.
A meal of barbecue chicken and other foods were served to the participants.
Raye Watson coordinates the ministry. Dr. W.F. Washington is the minister of the congregation, located at 2051 N.W. 31 Ave.
The African-American congregation has 1,200 saints, according to Churches-of-Christ.net, but The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement reported it had over 2,000 at the turn of the century.
