newsHENDERSON, Tenn. (BNc) — On Wednesday morning April 24, 2013, after an extensive battle with cancer, Dr. Jim Edmonds went to be with the Lord whom he loved and faithfully served throughout his life.

Jim was a Professor of Business Law at Freed-Hardeman University (FHU) for 31 years before his deteriorating health forced him to retire last year. He had also served as Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness at FHU, and Secretary/Treasurer and Board Member of Henderson Chester County Chamber of Commerce.

Jim and his wife Susan have been active members of the Estes church of Christ in Henderson, Tenn., for many years, during which time Jim effectively served as a Bible class teacher and the director of the education program, including the annual VBS.

In the mid-1990s Jim and Susan left their positions at FHU to work as missionaries in Slovakia for two years.

On a more personal note, here is my recent Facebook post:

“I lost one of my heroes today. About three years ago when my family and I were considering returning to the mission field, I thought about Jim and Susan Edmonds, who left FHU several years ago to spend a couple of years in Slovakia as missionaries. Their inspiration gave me the motivation to take a 2-year leave of absence and return to New Zealand, and, as they say, the rest is history. Jim and Susan, the spiritual fruit that God has produced and continues to produce in New Zealand’s Lower North Island ‘abounds to your account’ (Phil. 4:17). Jim was a great man of God and will be sorely missed. Susan, our love and prayers are with you.”

Visitation will be at the Casey Chapel Funeral Home in Henderson, Tenn., Friday, April 26 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday April 27 at 3:00 p.m. in the meeting place of the Estes church of Christ.
