Preacher dies in house fire

COLUMBIA, Miss. (BNc) — Jimmy W. Cox, 82 year-old preacher for the church in Columbia, Miss., and his wife Shirley, age 61, died in a fire that left little but ashes.

The fire occurred about 2 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10. Jimmy had been a newspaper man in Columbia for many years, but had spent his last several years trying to keep a small congregation going. He also wrote several articles for Magnolia Messenger as well as in the local paper. His first wife, Mattie, had died in 2004, and her death was recorded in Magnolia Messenger. They had three children, daughters Llene Poles and Nancy Tolbert, both of Mobile, Ala., and a deceased son, Jimmy Cox, Jr. Read more

Calvin Hardison dies at 70

Columbia, Tenn. (BNc) — Arthur Calvin Hardison, 70, minister at the Antioch church and resident of B. Kerr Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 at St. Thomas Hospital.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Graymere congregation with Bobby Sampson officiating.

William Woodson dies

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (BNc) – On Sep. 4, at about six in the evening, brother William Woodson of Walker Country, Ala., former chairman of the Bible department at Freed-Hardeman University, first chair of the DLU Bible graduate program, and former minister at Granny White died.

The last year his health had gone down and the last two to three weeks he has been in the hospital. Jeanne and his family, Dan Winkler and Jeremiah Tatum were with him when he died.  We appreciate how our friend Jeremiah has ministered to this family the last several years and more specifically the last few weeks. An updated report on William Woodson

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (BNc) — I have been asked to teach the remaining classes that brother William Woodson was scheduled to teach at the Graymere church in Columbia, Tenn., on the Restoration Movement.

Yesterday, I went by the hospital before the class but did not see anyone. The family has been provided a special room where they can stay, so they are not staying in the regular intensive care waiting room. Read more

Update on William Woodson

Editor’s Note: William Woodson had surgery on Friday, Aug. 20.  The following is a note from his wife regarding his current condition.

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (BNc) — Jean Woodson reported that her husband William’s condition remains unchanged in the last 24 hours. He is still in the hospital in very serious condition.

“He is on all kinds of life support,” said Jean, and he is unable to communicate.

The  family asks that  you  continue to  pray  for  William, Jean and their  family.

William Woodson recovering from surgery

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (BNc) — We  have  heard  from  William Woodson’s family  concerning  his condition after surgery. The  oncologist  told the  family  last  night, Aug. 25,  that  there  was  cancer  in  eight  of  the  32 lymph  nodes  removed  during  Woodson’s surgery on Friday, Aug. 20.  However,  they  were  told this  morning  that  all  the  cancer  had  been  removed  and  that chemotherapy  would  probably  not  be  necessary.
