Conference for preachers held in Kazan, Russia

KAZAN, Russia (BNc) – More than 30 preachers and ministers from more than 15 locations in Russia participated in a 3-day conference for preachers in the Deryshki hotel, October 26-29, in the suburb of Kazan, Russia.
“Churches of Christ in Russia today – Overcoming challenges and keeping the faith,” was the conference name. This was the fifth seminar held within the past five years and was the largest. Read more

Thursday night Patrick Donahue of Huntsville, Ala., affirmed that, “The Bible does not authorize use of the church treasury for social meals.” John T. Polk II of Dover, Tenn., denied. Read more

Fort Worth Lectures glean from the gospels

FORTH WORTH, Tex. (BNc) – The 33rd Annual Fort Worth Lectures held at the Brown Trail church building ended Wednesday, Jan. 13.
The lectures, “Gleanings from the Gospel Accounts,” focused on great truths about Jesus. They began Jan. 10.
A broad range of topics, ladies’ lectures, congregational singing and panel discussions crafted an environment of healthy teaching and refreshing fellowship. Read more
Faulkner locks down after threat

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BNc) – Faulkner University locked down its campus yesterday, Dec. 3, after a threat appeared on Facebook, a social networking site on the Internet.
A parent who had gone to campus for an event wrote on Facebook that he was told a “student [had] threatened to shoot some people.” Read more

Baxter Institute continues classes in spite of political unrest

TEGUCIGULPA, Honduras (BNc) – Preaching students are sequestered in the Baxter Institute, while political protests in the streets occur within earshot of the campus.
On June 28, 2009, with the support of the Honduran Supreme Court, the military, and the congress, Jose Manuel Zelaya was deposed as president of Honduras in what has been referred to as a military-backed coup by Zelaya supporters or a constitutional transfer of power by Roberto Micheletti, interim president until November 29, when presidential elections are scheduled.
On Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, former president Zelaya suddenly appeared inside the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa, the capitol of Honduras, which has resulted in a new wave of political demonstrations. Read more
Diana Singing celebrates 40th year

DIANA, Tenn. (BNc) – Over 3,000 Christians from at least 26 states gathered for the annual Diana Singing Sept. 11-12.
The event has been held in both the spring and the fall since 1969.
Master of ceremonies and co-founder Tom Holland announced that the purpose of the event is to “promote congregational singing.” And, indeed it did. Read more
Magnolia Bible College to close

KOSCIUSKO, Miss. (BNc) — Magnolia Bible College will close its doors on Dec. 17, according to the school’s website. The decision was made Aug. 19 by the board of trustees.
The 33-year-old Bible training school cited as the cause of the forced closure financial pressures from the trend of decreasing enrollment, escalating costs and lack of donations and revenues. Read more
Guyana Christian University graduates first class of ten

LETHEM, Guyana (BNc) – Jerry O. Davidson, missionary to the Amerindian villages in Guyana, South America, since 1999, reports that the school’s first graduation, held on July 3, 2009, was a success.
Ten Amerindians received diplomas for their two years of concentrated Bible study.
All of the graduates will be preaching in the Amerindian villages, some returning to their own villages. Read more
