SAMAR, Philippines (BNC) by James D. Suiter — The Samar School of Preaching started the first week’s session Jan. 2016 with eleven students. This has been a dream of Edwin Inso, a native of Samar, and supporters for several years, to have such a tool to reach the lost souls on the island for Christ.

Samar has not been evangelized as much as many other parts of the Philippines, according to Edwin Inso, the director of the school, and other evangelistic experts familiar with this area.

The new preaching school is an outgrowth of the great need to train men to preach and serve the growing number of Christians and churches in both Eastern and Western Samar.

Well over 200 have obeyed the gospel this past year alone, with just a few men prepared to preach and serve the huge increase of disciples.

Edwin is a graduate of the Philippine Institute of Biblical Studies in Cebu and is applying what he learned in Cebu to Samar. The men had assignments of preparing a short sermon and delivering it to the class, as well as door-knocking in the community.

Edwin has great zeal for the gospel and is committed to going the second mile to help spread the word of God throughout the Philippines.

Tools being used to supplement Edwin’s teaching are World Video Bible School DVDs and Truth For Today World Mission School of Searcy, Ark.

Confirmed teachers this next year are Jeremy Barrier, of Heritage Christian University, and Audie Cherry, director of the Philippine Missions Program and student at Heritage Christian.

This work is an outreach of the Lay Lake church in Columbiana, Ala., with supporting partnership of the Madison Ala., congregation, and Disaster Assistance church of Lake Jackson Tex.

Students were turned away because of a lack of funding, but this is a great start for the Samar School of Preaching. We believe God will supply and fill other needs for the work in 2016 and beyond.
