RED RIVER, N.M. (BNC) by Jeff Jenkins — What happens when more than 1,700 Christians gather under a massive tent, sit in lawn chairs, sing praises to God, listen to gospel preaching, and enjoy sweet fellowship together?

It can only be the Red River Family Encampment, when the sleepy little village of Red River, N.M., nestled in the foothills of the Sangre De Christo Mountain Range, is invaded and transformed into something resembling an old-fashion tent revival.

Christians travel from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Colorado, California, and other states the last week of June each year to soak in the beauty of God’s creation as well as the beauty of God’s people.

Once again this year, Jerry Lawlis (Executive Director) along with the RRFE Board planned and hosted an outstanding encampment.

The speakers for this year’s encampment included Bill Watkins, Ralph Gilmore, Noel Whitlock, Jeff Jenkins, Trey Morgan, Chris McCurley, Wes McAdams, Wayne Roberts, and several others.

As always the lessons were biblical as well as practical, the singing was glorious, and the fellowship was a taste of Heaven.

There are special classes each day for children, teens, and adults. There are classes on the family, textual studies, and topics of interest for everyone.

Many outstanding brotherhood programs are highlighted throughout the week. One of the highlights of the program is the Young Preacher’s Night, when young men ages 10 and up preach for the encampment.

If you have never attended the Red River Family Encampment, you should put it on your calendar. Red River and the surrounding area provide numerous family activities, delicious food, and plenty of shopping. There is plenty of lodging available and many bring their RV’s.

The temperature is always pleasant (as low as 30s and 40s in the morning) giving those who attend a break from the summer heat.

Next year (2016) will be the thirtieth year of the RRFE. The dates for next year’s encampment are June 25-29.

Consider adding this to your calendar and join us for this wonderful week of study, praise, and fellowship. We hope to see you then.
