Deacon recognized for special talents, uses gifts for fellow Christians

rick-hinsonCLEVELAND, Tenn. (BNc) — A deacon with the East Side congregation was recently highlighted in the Cleveland Daily Banner newspaper for his special talents.

Rick “Bear” Hinson shapes artifacts and manmade materials by both hand and machine to perfect his artistic creations.

Hinson creates fountain and ball-point pens, but has also done T-shirts, fan collectibles, portraits and customizing on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

One of his designs done for Earth Day sold tens of thousands of T-shirts.

Rick has designed T-shirts and fan collectibles for music artists Faron Young, Willie Nelson, Bill Monroe, and the Louvin Brothers, among others.

Rick uses his talent in the Lord’s church as well.

East Side minister Jeff Archey told the story to BNc.

“I recall a sister in Christ who lost her father, and he had military honors at the cemetery. After the 21-gun salute, Rick walked over and picked up a couple of casings. Shortly thereafter, he presented a custom-made pen from one of the carbine casings to this dear sister. I will never forget the expression of joy on her face. Rick’s gesture reminds her of her father in such a kind, good, and most unique way.”

Rick’s work as a deacon with the East Side congregation addresses their multiple mission efforts around the world and needed support on behalf of the elders.

“He is one of the finest, most genuine servants I know — a true blessing to our labors at East Side,” Jeff said.

Thanks to the Cleveland Daily Banner for the report and photo.

Randal and his wife Vicki have lived and worked in Brazil since Nov. 1984. They have three children, two daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren. He likes to read novels in his back-porch hammock. http://randal.us
