Fire causes damage at Paragould Children’s Homes

PARAGOULD, Ark. (BNc) — A fire damaged one of the cottage houses on the campus of Children’s Homes of Paragould Thursday afternoon, according to the KAIT-8 website and BNc sources.

Firefighters got the call at 4:15 p.m., and on arrival smoke could be seen coming from the structure, which sustained damage to a bathroom, attic, and bedroom. No one was injured. Read more

Harding Academy Memphis names new president

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (BNc) — Harding Academy Memphis announced on its website earlier today the appointment of Trent Williamson as its new president, effective June 1, 2012.

Williamson was a teacher and coach at Harding from 1990-95. His wife teaches at Harding, and his children attend the school as well.

Harding also released a short video of the announcement and Williamson’s acceptance of the post. Read more

PINSON, Ala. (BNc) — On a Friday evening, an audience gathered at the Pinson High School Fine Arts Center to hear reason and evidences regarding the fundamental point of contention among the  ‘religious’ world today: “The Bible is the exclusive standard of authority for Christian faith and practice.”

Robert Sungenis, well known author and president of Catholic Apologetics International, an organization dedicated to teaching and defending Roman Catholicism, was set to defend his belief in additional authoritative sources.

David Hester, evangelist with the Springville Road church, affirmed the Bible as the exclusive will of God to man. Read more

Gospel preacher and camp organizer Hoyt Nelson dies

MOULTON, Ala. (BNc) – Well-known and much loved Gospel minister Hoyt Nelson of Moulton, Ala., died Sept. 25th. He was 81. His wife Gueldine preceded him in death several years earlier. Funeral services were held Sept. 28th in the Hartselle (Ala.) Church of Christ auditorium.

While serving the College Avenue congregation in Enterprise, Ala., in the 1960s and 70s, Hoyt was a driving force in the beginning of Wiregrass Christian Youth Camp at Chancellor, Ala. He remained active in that work the rest of his life. Memorials may be made to this work and sent to Camp Wiregrass, P. O. Box 311072, Enterprise, AL 36331. He also did missionary work throughout the Ukraine, Romania, and the Caribbean. Read more

“Michelle Rogers Field of Dreams” becomes a reality

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (BNc) – Michelle Rogers had a dream, but it would cost $65,000 to fulfill it.

Rogers, who taught middle school for two years, transferred to Waterville Community Elementary, where she has been for five years. When she arrived in Waterville, she heard parents complain about the lack of adaptive playground equipment for the handicapped.

Preacher’s wife and son murdered in Miss.

Les Ferguson familyGULFPORT, Miss. (BNc) — Karen Ferguson, 45, and her son, Trevor Cole Ferguson, 21, were found dead yesterday, Oct. 10, in their home.

The murder suspect, Paul Ellis Buckman, was later found dead in his apartment by police, according to a report by the area newspaper, SunHerald.

The AP reported that a neighbor saw the alleged murderer in the Ferguson home after the family’s 5-year-old son ran to her house, crying and screaming that “the bad man who hurt my brother” was now hurting his mother. Read more

KINLICHEE, Ariz. (BNc) — Wednesday night, I went to bed at about 10 p.m. The dogs were barking a lot at about 10:30-11:00 p.m., so I went out to see what was going on and saw nothing — everything was fine.

At 1 a.m. I was wakened by the Fire Department and police pounding on the door. The Hogan was completely destroyed. Read more

PTSD: Recovering from war

PTSDCARTERSVILLE, Ga. (BNc) — I served in the U.S. Army as a combat infantryman soldier during the Vietnam War. My tour of duty in Vietnam was Sept. 4, 1967, to Sept. 1, 1968. I was assigned to Alpha Company of the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Battalion, and 22nd Infantry of the 25th Infantry Division.

This unit was involved in four counter-offensives during my tour of duty.

During my military service, I was not a Christian. After my military service, I struggled with the events of Vietnam.

As I sought help from the doctors, I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This became my thorn in the flesh. Read more
