Brazil city hears gospel for first time

The true gospel comes for the first time to a city in  Brazil’s northeast region.

Sapé is the tenth largest city in the state of Paraíba, population 50,000. It began in 1883 with a Great Western train station, coming to be recognized as a city in 1925.

Its name comes from the Indian word for a type of grass predominant in the area, eçape. The Indians would bundle the grass together, making a torch to light their path at night. Read more

108-year-old Christian Worker magazine goes online

AUSTIN, Tex. (BNc) – The Christian Worker monthly periodical launched its website yesterday, putting its content online for free.

Since 1903 the Christian Worker has been published by faithful brethren who seek the old paths. It is one of the oldest, least-known periodicals in the brotherhood.

Originating in Panama, Neb., the periodical was published under the editorship of men such as Rue Porter, Bill Freeze, Jr., and Bill Jackson. Read more

Talking to telemarketers about their soul

TelemarketersI often receive calls from telemarketers here at the Evans, Ga., church. Recently, I have started taking over the conversation and talk to them about their soul, about God and the Bible. Most of them hang up on me.

But today a man called, and he admitted he was an atheist. I talked to him about some of the proofs that there is a God. He has become interested and called back three times. We have had some good discussions. He plans to call back tomorrow.

I still do not know what product he was trying to sell. But I have something to give him, that is the truth.

Organization to be honored

RALEIGH, NC (BNc) – The Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Organization of Nashville, TN is to be honored on Sept. 17 at the Mid-Atlantic Evangelism Seminar in Raleigh, NC.

The national volunteer disaster relief organization, out of Nashville, Tenn., and supported by churches of Christ, individuals, corporations and other non-profit agencies nationwide, will be honored during the 38th Annual Mid-Atlantic Evangelism Seminar to be held at the Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh Sept. 16-18th.
