RALEIGH, NC (BNc) — The Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Organization of Nashville, TN is to be honored on Sept. 17 at the Mid-Atlantic Evangelism Seminar in Raleigh, NC.
The national volunteer disaster relief organization, out of Nashville, Tenn., and supported by churches of Christ, individuals, corporations and other non-profit agencies nationwide, will be honored during the 38th Annual Mid-Atlantic Evangelism Seminar to be held at the Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh Sept. 16-18th.
The organization, which unofficially began in 1990, has distributed well over $130 million in emergency food and supplies in response to over 300 disasters in 42 states throughout the United States. The presentation to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, led and directed by Joe Dudney of Nashville, TN, VP/Exec. Director, will be made at the Brooks Ave Church of Christ in the Fails-Watson Hall during a luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.
In response to the April 16, 2011 tornadoes that struck North Carolina, the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort quickly sent $336,074 of aid to Raleigh, Edenton, Fayetteville and Sanford. Among the items sent were food, personal care boxes, clean water, diapers, linens, shovels, hoes, brooms, mops, cleaning supplies, refrigerators, dryers, and other needed household items. In North Carolina alone since 1996, over $2.25 million worth in goods and supplies have been distributed in places like Raleigh, Wilmington, Jacksonville, Kinston, Burnsville, Bakersville, Reidsville, Shallotte, Greenville, Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, Lumberton, Edenton, Fayetteville and Sanford and other areas.
Since January of this year, the organization has provided aid totaling over $6.2 million to 18 different states. Supplies have been sent to tornado-damaged Joplin, MO and Tuscaloosa, AL, flooded areas of Tennessee, oil-spill cleanup efforts in Louisiana, and assistance for recovering from wild fires in Tempe, AZ. The ceremony honoring the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort will be held during the Mid-Atlantic Evangelism Seminar, which features speakers from North Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Florida, California, and Tennessee.
