WICHITA FALLS, Tx (BNC) — Trent Campbell, 71, passed away on June 28, 2011 at Wichita Falls, Texas after a period of declining health.

His passing is mourned by his loving wife of 49 years, Murty ‘Billie’ Campbell; three children Kelley Weatherly (Mitch Weatherly), Foy Campbell (Mary Campbell), and Regina Campbell; and his two sisters Peggy Polk and Shelley Reville; six grandchildren Lydia Mulligan (Brett Mulligan), Rebekah Blakeman (Andrew Blakeman), Caleb Weatherly, Breven Campbell and Jerren Campbell and Charing Campbell; and by countless others who were blessed by his loving service as a minister, elder, missionary and substance-abuse counselor and caseworker at Giddings State School (TYC). He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Lee Campbell, and his mother, Sena Wren Drew Campbell. He was a member of Faith Village Church of Christ in Wichita Falls.

Trent L. Campbell was born on July 29, 1939 at Austin, Texas. He grew up in Baytown, Texas, where he attended Robert E. Lee High School. Trent served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the Sunset School of Preaching at Lubbock, Texas and received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland in Germany.

In 1967 Trent moved to Kaiserslautern Germany to preach for the English-language congregation. After becoming proficient in German, he assisted German-speaking congregations in several locations including Kaiserslautern. Eventually, the Campbells moved to Frankfurt to work full time with the English-language congregation. For many years, Trent coordinated an annual retreat held at Berchtesgaden in a recreation center of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Campbells also helped with a Christian camp for young people at Gemunden, Germany.

In a tribute  John Phillis states: “Trent loved people and was the consummate ‘people person’. He had a wonderful personality and the ability to connect, whether from the pulpit, in a classroom or one-on-one counseling. He especially loved kids and kids loved him. He was great fun to be around. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a mischievous little grin, and a wonderful way of way of lifting your spirit. He wasn’t a doctor, but he did practice ‘medicine’ – ‘A merry heart does good, like medicine…’ (Proverbs 17:22).”

A memorial service was conducted on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls at P.O. Box 4804, Wichita Falls, TX 76308, or to Jared Blakeman’s Adventure in Missions (AIM), through Faith Village Church of Christ, 4100 McNiel, Wichita Falls, TX 76308.
