Bible memorizationDENVER, Colo. (BNc) — Jon Warnes believes you can learn 100 Bible verses in 100 days. Over 1,500 people who have signed up to his program agree with him.

Jon began today a 100-day program of Bible memorization, using an event page on Facebook. The program will go through Sept. 5.

Jon will be listing the verses on a weekly basis on the event page and putting verses from previous weeks on his weblog.

He also is posting memory tips that others have suggested since he started the event.

“I would’ve been extremely excited if only 100” had signed up, Jon said in a note to BNc. “Little did I know how excited people were about this event. Friends began inviting friends, and before you know it there were over 1300 attendees within 1 week.”

Jon revealed what prompted the idea for the 100 Days of Scripture. His own family had just concluded memorizing 100 verses. Then, his oldest son, preacher with the Miller Street church in Wheat Ridge, Colo., and his wife were talking with them about some type of summer activities in the congregation.

“I remembered we were quickly approaching Memorial Day, and I remembered as a kid and as a young airman in the Air Force how there was always some sort of safety campaign or advertisement that promoted the ‘100 Days of Summer.’ That’s when I suggested doing a 100 Days of Scripture. This would entail memorizing Scripture throughout the summer,” he said.

Jon has several categories or groupings of Scripture. The first grouping is called the “Only God’s Word Saves” Verses.

“The ‘Only God’s Word Saves’ category will have verses that clearly show there is salvation in only the inspired word of God. The Bible is all we need, no other book will guide us or provide us the plan to salvation,” Jon said.

The first week of verse are these:

  • Day 1- James 1:21 (May 29)
“Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. “
  • Day 2- Romans 1:16 (May 30)
  • Day 3- Romans 1:17 (May 31)
  • Day 4- Luke 24:44 (June 1)
  • Day 5- Luke 24:45 (June 2)
  • Day 6- Luke 24:46 ( June 3)
  • Day 7- Luke 24:47 (June 4)

Jon is listing scriptures in the NASB, but told people to feel free to use whatever version they’re comfortable with.

Jon is Director of Alumni Relations at Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver.

Richard Hill, elder with the Eureka, Ill., church, is posting the verses daily on The Fellowship Room, where one can follow or sign up to the RSS feed.

Also, the verses can be received by email at 100scriptures.posterous.com, in six versions: NET, NIV, NASB, ESV, NKJV, and KJV.
