First Annual Spanish Lectureship
November 29, 2010
by Willie Alvarenga
BEDFORD, Tx. (BNc) – Thanks to our heavenly Father, we were able to have an excellent lectureship!
Many Spanish brethren from Brown Trail were involved in this lectureship. Our sisters did an excellent job cooking breakfast and lunch for those who attended this event. Everyone worked very hard for several days trying to get everything ready for our lectureship. Well, Nov. 13 came, and everything was ready to receive everyone who made the time to be with us.
We would like to say thank you to the elders for allowing this lectureship to take place at the Brown Trail building. We are indeed forever thankful to them and to everyone else who made everything possible for this lectureship to be a success. To God be the glory!
We had 14 displays from different ministries of the Lord’s church. Those who attended the lectureship were able to take home free literature that ministries provided for this event. We thank all of those brethren who traveled several miles to bring their displays to this lectureship.
We were able to make the lectureship book available in Spanish. All of the speakers prepared a manuscript which was then put into a lectureship book. Brother Willie Alvarenga was in charge of editing this book of 71 pages. The central theme of this year’s lectureship was: Studying God’s Word Efficiently.
We had a total of 9 speakers preaching and teaching the word of God. All of them are graduates from the Brown Trail School of Preaching. In this program we had classes for the ladies, the men and the young people. The attendance for each of these classes was great! Thanks to the great job of Brother Mark Teske, we were able to record each lesson in audio and video. We are also thankful to each teacher who helped with the children’s classes. Each of them did a wonderful job.
Three panelist were able to answer questions given to them. Brother Obed Rodriguez, Douglas Alvarenga and Willie Alvarenga did an excellent job giving Biblical answers to several questions. We are thankful to Mark Teske and Brother Luis Camacho for making the broadcasting of our lectureship possible. At the end of the lectures, information was given to us telling us of the 15 countries who were able to view and listen to the lectureship live.
Our brothers and sisters in Christ showed their true love as they worked hard during this lectureship. We commend each of them for their dedication and Christian love. May God grant us more brethren who truly enjoy serving the Lord in His kingdom.
We are indeed very thankful to the elders for supporting this great lectureship. We were very encouraged as we saw their happy faces and heard their words of encouragement for this event. Indeed we are thankful to them for allowing this lectureship to be part of the Spanish program at Brown Trail School of Preaching.
Saigon church hassled by police

SAIGON, Vietnam (BNc) – A missionary in Asia recounts a recent Sunday when the church in the capital of Vietnam was hassled by police.
The Lord’s church had been given legal recognition one year ago, but when we entered the small meeting place in downtown Saigon, Oct. 31, a uniformed policeman and court recorder were interrogating one of our brothers.
A teenage boy met us and said, “Everything is OK, just go upstairs.” But when we got inside others told us the police had been showing up every Sunday for the last month trying to extract bribes from the church and scare people away from the meetings. Read more

EAST KILBRIDE, Scotland (BNc) – We welcomed a new coworker to East Kilbride this summer. Richard and Mary Harp moved over on 23rd June with a five-year commitment to work with the congregation in East Kilbride.
Richard and Mary both attended Freed-Hardeman University. Richard received both his Bachelor and Masters Degrees from FHU, the latter being in New Testament. Mary has her BA in Art. While studying for his Masters Degree, Richard also served as the youth minister for the congregation in Selmer, Tenn. He is sponsored by the Fourth Street church in Selmer.
Richard worked with the Cumbernauld congregation the summer of 2005. That summer he was able to work with Camp Heather and he came to the attention of the elders at East Kilbride. They invited him to come back to work with the East Kilbride congregation, primarily concentrating on building up the youth work. Read more

PALMERSTON NORTH, NZ (BNc) — The church in Palmerston North, New Zealand has been hosting a Ladies’ Challenge for a number of years, with the goal of providing a special time for Christian sisters to join together and revive their spirits.
We have been blessed with amazing lessons from our sisters from overseas and locally. A few of our overseas talents have been Betty Choate, Cindy & Hannah Colley, Cynthia Guy, and Nicole Whitacre, Cathy Whitacre and Christina Barkley, a mother-daughter, daughter-in-law team who were passionate Bible class teachers. We have had New Zealand talent, some presenting their first ever lessons at the Ladies’ Challenge. Read more
HTH Success Story
November 10, 2010
by House to House Heart to Heart
ALBANY, Ga. (BNc) — Mary Alice Rigsby came by our church building and requested to study with one of our members. She has been receiving the House to House Heart to Heart (HTH) for some time and had studied her Bible, and realized that she must surely be obedient to the Lord. She came to be baptized and was following a study.
She and another lady, Syble Massey, who had received the magazine for some time, came to our building. Syble was a member of the church in Tennessee, but had not been faithful. She responded the first of October to be restored.
This makes a total of seven souls that have been reached initially by the HTH work since we have used this program beginning in 2002. We are grateful to the Lord for all the good that HTH is doing, and plan to continue to use this as one of the tools to reach the outside.
Submitted by Sam Hartline, the Eastside congregation in Albany, Ga.
