They tried that underhanded stuff in Oklahoma a few years ago by painting a broad stroke of progressive "church of Christ" reporting. The Daily Oklahoman religious section and TV channels loved it... the horrible conservatives are gone.

Several in the state of Oklahoma stuck back with a full page color ad not only telling the truth of the story that only a few extreme groups were going rogue and we publicly marked the man behind the lies.

Yes, it caused a big stir; yes a lot of people did not like it; yet, he that troubled us... troubles us no more!

I read the article last Tuesday, I believe, and my first impression was that the author was trying to initiate a fight rather than simply report on an event. I was amazed that he thought it odd that people of varying beliefs got together to help the homeless. They weren't worshipping together or acknowledging the validity of each others' faith, as far as I know. They were improving the living conditions of homeless people, and I know of no scripture preventing that. When a town is flooded along the Mississippi, all its residents work together, regardless of beliefs. 2 John 9 in no way limits a Christian to giving aid only in the presence of other Christians. With that out of the way, let me say that I agree wholeheartedly with the remainder of your article. I have no interest in retaining our identity, as if there is value in being different. I left the denominational world because I could not find it nor its teachings in scripture. What I am seeing now is not just poor scholarship, but absent scholarship. Church leaders are leaving the indepth study of scripture for spiritual donuts. They look great and taste even better, but are empty and unfulfilling.
