The Northeast church in Kingsport, Tenn., is sending aid directly to the church of Christ in Haiti. Donation information is included in this story.

by Sam Ross, Northeast church elder

Darrell Riley and I have been involved in the work in Haiti for over 20 years. The Northeast church in Kingsport, Tenn., where we are elders, is the sponsoring church for Jean Robert St. Hilaire, who directs the School of Preaching and is full-time minister for the Delmas 43 church of Christ in Port-Au-Prince.

Over the last 20 years, the school has been responsible for over 200 new congregations and over 20,000 Christians.

The Delmas 43 congregation has grown from 6 to over 1,200 and is the only congregation we know of in Haiti that has matured to the point of having an eldership.

Many former members have moved on to establish other congregations, not only in Haiti but also in other, mostly French-speaking, countries all over the world, including Paris, France.

Darrell and I have made several trips to work and teach in Haiti, along with several members of our congregation. In all the years we have known Jean Robert (we call him John Robert); we have never had any reason to doubt his dedication to the Lord and soundness to His doctrine. He is very well know and respected in the church throughout the country and by the Haitian government.

Jean Robert is experienced in the distribution of disaster relief, having served well during the fairly recent hurricane disaster. We trust him completely and will be sending some of the funds directly to him for distribution among the brethren for various expenses, including burials, immediate needs and rebuilding of church buildings that were damaged.

By working together, we can glorify God by helping his people in this terrible time of trial.

“By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers”. Gal 6:10

Some correspondence we have received from Jean Robert has been posted HERE.
