LETHEM, Guyana (BNc) — Jerry O. Davidson, missionary to the Amerindian villages in Guyana, South America, since 1999, reports that the school’s first graduation, held on July 3, 2009, was a success.
Ten Amerindians received diplomas for their two years of concentrated Bible study.
All of the graduates will be preaching in the Amerindian villages, some returning to their own villages.
Guyana Christian University is located in Lethem in the southern Region Nine of Guyana, 300 miles south of Georgetown, the capital city. The school was established Sept., 2007.
Thomas George, a former Amerindian medic, is the director of the school, which is under the oversight of the Eastern Shore church in Daphne, Ala. Their minister, Bryant Evans, serves at the Academic Dean of GCU and works tirelessly recruiting teachers to teach a session in the school.
Tom Holland of Nashville, Tenn., is the President of GCU, and Gene Johnson of Decatur, Ala., serves as Vice-president. John Langham of Daphne, Ala., is the school’s Treasurer.
Already 10 Amerindian men are enrolled to study in the next two-year session, which begins Sept., 2009.
