BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BNc) — Jack and Frances Zorn were injured seriously in an auto accident last night, according to Sam Long, Director of Church Relations at Faulkner University.

jackzornpAs the Zorns returned home on Highway 280 from church in Sylacauga, Ala., a large truck apparently jack-knifed and hit eight or nine cars. Three or four were killed and several others were injured.

Jack received a concussion. Frances suffered a punctured lung, a broken spine and internal bleeding. She was airlifted to the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital in critical condition.

Their daughter Rhonda said this morning that Frances had made it through surgery.

Jack, 74, is the founder of the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes training program and a Faulkner University board member.

According to Sam Long, the driver of a SUV was killed, and the truck driver lost both legs in the accident.

“Please pray for the Zorn family that the doctors will be able heal Frances and that the family will have the strength to make it through this hard time,” Sam wrote in an email.

Sam mentioned that he spoke yesterday at the Hollins church and was introduced by Jack, whom he has known for more than 30 years.

Sylacauga is 47 miles southeast of Birmingham.

UPDATE: Sam wrote Feb. 17, “Sister Zorn is a little better today.  She knows people and able to communicate some.  She will have to have surgery, maybe in a week.  Jack has a large bump on his head but is doing ok at this time. “
