NILES, Mich. (BNc)- The wife of apologist John Clayton died yesterday of complications from diabetes.

Early on the morning of May 9, Phyllis Clayton lost her battle after living with diabetes for about 60 years, since the age of 10. She struggled with many complications from the disease.

She and John were married for almost 50 years. They reared three children: Timothy of South Bend, Ind.; Cathy Haught of Abilene, Tex., and Wendy Howe of Irving, Tex.

Phyllis graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington. Early in her career she worked as a dietician and cafeteria manager with the South Bend Community School Corporation.

In the late 1960s John began the Does God Exist? program with Phyllis’s support and involvement. She helped with the ministry’s bulletin and other publications.

Recently she authored the book Living Successfully with Diabetes.

She was active in the Dowagiac, Mich., church.
