EDMOND, Okla. (BNc)- Emily Hollett was born in Needles, Calif., Jan. 28, 1909. She passed away on her 99th birthday, Jan. 28, 2008. Emily was the oldest of four children.
Emily’s father worked for the railroad, so the family moved frequently. She studied through the eighth grade in Coursegold, Calif., but dropped out to care for her ailing mother. After her mother died, she went to live with an uncle in Redlands, Calif., and went to high school there for a time.
She married Howard Roy Smith in 1928. They had four children, including Margie (Shipp), wife of Glover. Emily and Howard were divorced in 1947.
In 1954 she married Charlie Hollett, foreman of the Canon Electric aircraft parts factory where she was employed. She was baptized at the York Blvd. Church of Christ in Highland Park, CA.
In 1961 she moved into Margie’s home in Los Angeles and was official babysitter for Glover and Margie’s four sons and adopted daughter.
When they went to the mission field in Brazil in 1967, she accompanied them. She returned to Los Angeles in 1975 then moved to Omaha, Neb., to live with her son Clifford.
In 1986 she moved to Abilene, Tex., to be near Margie. When the Shipps moved to Edmond in 1990, she again accompanied them. She remained there until her passing.
She had 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Services were scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in the Edmond church chapel.

Sympathy is far too common a term for the death of a loved one; but then again death is far too common among us as well. May God grant you peace and joy during this time of sorrow.
