[Editor’s note: Wayne Jackson’s son Jason sent the following email about his father’s cancer surgery performed this week. Wayne Jackson has been editor of the Christian Courier since 1964.]
Tuesday’s surgery began right around noon Pacific Standard Time. While we were expecting about a three-hour surgery, it ended up taking a full seven hours.
Late Tuesday evening, the surgeon told us that he had removed two cancerous tumors in the neck area, along with his remaining thyroid gland and several lymph nodes.
The doctor was very confident that the cancer had not spread to any other surrounding regions at this time. He was able to preserve the vocal chord nerves and a nerve that serves the right arm.
The doctor kept him in ICU because of the length of the surgery, and on Wednesday afternoon moved him to a regular room. Wayne was released to go home this afternoon and rested.
He will have some follow up in the next week or so and may have some additional treatment.
We are very pleased with the outcome of the treatment.
